Top 10 shown. Her ranks of 44 by average likes: TikTok #29, Instagram #26, X #31, Facebook #30. Same caveat: Instagram rows could not be re-verified on 15 October. Rows for other politicians are as of the 14 October dashboard pass.
Things working against her
None of these are content-quality problems. They are distribution, reach and findability problems, which means they are fixable without changing her voice or her portfolio focus.
X is dark: her third-largest audience has had nothing since 9 May
X is the only platform where she ranks in the top 10 on its own (#7), yet the account has been silent since 9 May 2026 and followers are still drifting down (168,500 last pass, 168,400 now). It sits at #31 of 44 on the Real Engagement leaderboard, second only to Facebook as her weakest showing.
Post a short thread on the Senate AI and data centres inquiry she chairs and pin it. Even one post a day for two weeks tells 168,400 followers the account is live again.
Facebook only responds to native video, not podcast promos
Her biggest single audience swings more than tenfold by format. The 13 October livestream video drew 1.1K likes and 71 shares and the Bob Brown quote video 353 likes, while the podcast promo posted yesterday drew 69. Comments are limited on all three. Her best post is level with Roberts (1.1K likes) but well short of Lambie (8.7K likes, 2.3K comments, 1.7K shares on a recent post, read earlier this week).
Stop sending podcast promo links to the page. Post native video with a direct question, the format behind the 1.1K livestream post, and compare reactions against the 507-like average. A lift here is worth more reach than any other single change.
The podcast is the most consistent show in the field, but its online reach is small and unmeasured
The Sarah Hanson-Young Podcast has released every week since at least 7 September, a steadier cadence than any other politician-linked show on Spotify. Spotify does not publish listener counts, so its real audience is unknown. Meanwhile her YouTube channel is her smallest at 262 subscribers, and podcast clips posted to Facebook draw a few hundred likes at best (353 for the Bob Brown clip, 69 for the latest episode promo).
Cut thirty-second clips from each episode, caption them and post them natively to TikTok and Instagram, where she already gets responses, and link the full episode from there.
What's actually working
Short, urgent video on a clear moral line is her best performer
Her three latest TikToks average 610 likes and 234 comments on 17,200 followers. The "must be blocked" execution-livestream clip drew 864 likes and 520 comments and the "shocking and barbaric" clip 804 likes and 168 comments, while the penalties-for-big-tech clip posted 18 hours earlier drew 162 and 13. It is her best measurable rate (X 0.27%, Facebook 0.21%). A comment count that high on a small account means people are arguing and sharing opinions, not just scrolling.
Instagram is growing, and she posts several times a day
She posts several times a day, the cadence her other channels lack. Instagram hides like counts on her posts, so engagement cannot be re-verified here; the 0.51% in the tables is from the earlier dashboard pass and is indicative only.
The execution-livestream letter is a cross-party moment
She asked that the US execution livestream be blocked in Australia, and Barnaby Joyce raised the same concern independently. A Greens senator and a One Nation MP on the same side is rare and draws coverage from outside her usual audience. On 13 October she also urged the PM to call Trump over the streaming plan. The Facebook version of the clip is her best page post this pass, at 1.1K likes and 71 shares.

Where to point content this week
Two lanes: what to actually post about, and how to fix the platforms. Both are built from the news and engagement research above and what the numbers show is and is not working for her.
"Who pays when AI uses Australian work?" as a 60-second TikTok and Reel
Use the 14 October Greens statement urging the government to stand firm against big AI and protect creatives, and her 27 September announcement that the OpenAI and Anthropic chief executives have been called before the inquiry she chairs. One question, one answer, one ask: make a submission.
Put the River Murray in her own words, on Facebook and Instagram
A draft Murray-Darling Basin Authority report projects state-run water-saving projects will fall about 265 gigalitres a year short, with 17 of 39 projects shelved or late, and Minister Murray Watt has not ruled out more buybacks. At the 13 October Canberra press conference of South Australian MPs and senators, the coverage did not name her, even though water is her portfolio. A plain post on what SA is owed, with the figure and the minister's quote, claims the issue.
Turn the cross-party livestream moment into a follow-up
Ask the eSafety Commissioner's office for a response, then post whatever comes back. Reply-style content keeps a story alive after the first news cycle, and the "must be blocked" clip is already her highest-comment TikTok at 520.
Podcast clips cut for TikTok, not Facebook
Take thirty seconds from the next episode, caption it and post it natively on TikTok and Instagram instead of sending a promo link to a page that gives it 69 likes.
Say where she stands on the leadership and Ukraine, in her own voice
On 13 October she told ABC RN Breakfast she will not run for the Greens leadership again and backed military aid to Ukraine while the party split publicly on the issue (Shoebridge was elected leader on 30 September). A short, calm piece to camera saying the same thing in her own words stops others framing it for her.
Restart X with a pinned thread
The largest audience she is not using. Pin a short AI-inquiry thread, then post once a day for two weeks and compare likes against the roughly 460 baseline before deciding whether the account is worth keeping active.
Rework the Facebook post format
Native video plus one direct question in the caption, in place of podcast promos. Run three posts and compare reactions against the 507-like average.
Bring TikTok's proven format to Instagram
TikTok converts at 4.91%, her best measurable rate, while Instagram is where she is growing and posting daily (its engagement cannot be measured while likes are hidden). Reuse the short, single-point, moral-line clips there rather than treating them as two strategies.
Keep posting on the cross-party and portfolio stories while they are live
Her best-performing posts this pass were reactions to a live news event (the livestream). Publish within the day on the next portfolio moment (AI inquiry hearings, Basin Plan, digital duty of care) rather than a week later.
The numbers behind this briefing
| Platform | Reach | Change | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| X (Twitter) | 168,400 | -100 | Her third-largest audience and the only platform where she ranks in the top 10 on its own (#7 on X). No posts since 9 May 2026, so the account is dormant. Likes figure (about 460 a post) is from 25 April to 9 May. Engagement rate 0.27%. |
| 146,267 | +4,267 | Growing and posting several times a day. Instagram now hides like counts on her posts, so engagement (0.51% in the earlier dashboard pass) could not be re-verified and is indicative only. | |
| 247,000 | +4,000 | Her biggest single audience, barely used: latest three posts average 507 likes (0.21%): the livestream video drew 1.1K likes and 71 shares, the podcast promo only 69. #10 on the Meta board. | |
| TikTok | 17,200 | +600 | Her best engagement rate: three latest posts average 610 likes and 234 comments (4.91%), the highest rate of any of her channels. |
| YouTube | 262 | n/a | Her smallest channel; podcast clips are going to Facebook rather than here. Outside the YouTube top 10. |
