Three things working against him

None of these are content-quality problems: they're distribution and consistency problems, which is the good news: they're fixable without changing his voice or message.

A real 22,000-follower X account has been silent for 18+ months

Last visible post: 20 February 2024

His real account, @RealBobKatter, has 22,000 followers built up since 2011, bigger than his YouTube and TikTok audiences combined. It's simply gone quiet.

How to fix it

Post something on @RealBobKatter this week: anything. Start by reposting 2-3 clips already used on Facebook/Instagram (zero new production), then spend the first fortnight replying to and quote-posting other MPs on the super-policy story (see Tip 2) rather than posting cold into silence. Borrowed reach rebuilds the account's signal faster than original posts into an empty timeline.

His podcast isn't registering with Podscan, or with AI, at all

14 episodes, active as recently as Aug 2026: invisible to Podscan and AI search alike

The podcast has 14 episodes and a strong 4.6★ rating, but it's essentially invisible to trackers like Podscan because there's no public RSS feed enabled and no transcripts published for any episode, nothing for a crawler to index. That same gap makes him invisible on AI too: ChatGPT and Perplexity read the same kind of crawlable text Podscan does, and neither one surfaces his show when asked directly about Australian politician-hosted podcasts (see "How AI engines see him" below). It's a technical, setup gap, not a content one, and it's also why its YouTube channel sits at just 1,050 subscribers, the lowest of any tracked show.

How to fix it

Two fixes, and neither needs a new recording: (1) turn on a public RSS feed and confirm it's actually submitted to Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Podscan; a private or unsubmitted feed is invisible to every tracker no matter how good the show is; (2) publish a transcript or detailed show notes for each episode, since that's the actual text Podscan (and AI engines like ChatGPT/Perplexity, see below) crawl to identify and rank a podcast. Once that's live, cut 2-3 of the 14 existing episodes into 60-90 second YouTube Shorts / Reels / TikToks (see Tip 3) to give the newly-crawlable show some reach on top of the fix.

His overall reach still sits just outside the national top 10

#11 of the Top 25 ranked, 27,788 behind Sen. Jacinta Nampijinpa Price's #10 cutoff (520,638)

This isn't a content or effort gap, it's a platform-mix ceiling: 88% of his combined reach sits on Meta, where he's already a strong #8, but he has no equivalent-scale presence on X or TikTok to add to the total. Closing an 11-slot gap doesn't need more original content, it needs the content that's already working to travel further.

How to fix it

One staffer, one afternoon, no camera time from Bob: (1) re-crop the existing backpackers video to 9:16 vertical, a 15-minute export job, not a reshoot; (2) post it to TikTok the same day, punchline on-screen as text for the first 3 seconds, same audio, tagged #auspol and #workingholidayvisa; (3) post it to X as a native uploaded video, not a Facebook link (X's own algorithm suppresses outbound links), caption trimmed to one line, with a same-day reply adding the harder numbers (24 of 29 countries paused, third-year extensions cut from 31,000 to 5,000); (4) within 48 hours, while the visa story is still live nationally, reply directly into it by quote-posting the National Farmers' Federation's own statements on the labour shortage and 1-2 of the agricultural journalists currently bylined on the story. Check next week's Real Engagement numbers for the X and TikTok versions: above roughly 2% engagement on either is the evidence needed to make this a standing Thursday habit rather than a one-off.

What's actually working

His working-holiday-visa post is the #1 ranked post on the entire leaderboard this week

"Backpackers are here for a good time, not a long time" – 13,800 avg. likes, #1 of 43 sampled posts across every tracked politician by raw likes, and #4 by engagement rate (5.17%)

This isn't a good result relative to his own account, it's the single best-performing post on the whole leaderboard this pass, ahead of every other tracked politician on every platform. It landed the same week the government's working holiday visa crackdown became a genuine national story (see Idea 1 below), so the timing wasn't luck: the post was already speaking directly to the anxiety farmers and regional communities are feeling about harvest labour right now.

Even a dormant account can still land

A 2024 TikTok clip still ranks #8 of 43 by engagement rate (2.0%), despite the account not having posted in over a year

The Supermarket Dominance Bill clip is old, but its 2.0% engagement rate still beats plenty of freshly-posted content from bigger accounts. Combined with Instagram's steady 0.64% rate, the pattern across all three active-ish platforms is the same one flagged last pass: the content itself isn't the problem, reach and consistency are.

Search interest has been sliding for three months

Weekly Google search interest in "Bob Katter MP" peaked at 65 (of 100, relative to his own 12-month high) in the week of 21 June, and has spent most of the last two months in the high teens to low twenties. In the most recent cross-comparable ranking against the other tracked politicians (9 September 2026 pull, not yet refreshed this pass), he sits at a value of 1, tied with several others, and a long way behind Pauline Hanson's dominant 18. This isn't a crisis on its own, but it's the backdrop the reach and content-ops issues above are playing out against: attention is not compounding in his favour right now, which makes this week's viral Facebook post (see Balance above) a genuine opportunity to reverse that if the momentum is followed up on.

What's actually trending right now

Live-pulled 9 Sep 2026 from X's own Trending tab, the #auspol hashtag search, r/australia + r/AustralianPolitics, and real Facebook post engagement, ranked by score or likes. The Opportunity ideas below are built directly from the rows marked as political here.

Two threads dominate: government MPs (Leigh, Hill) pushing the algorithm opt-out bill, and unaffiliated accounts arguing about immigration, Hanson/One Nation and the Attorney-General. Nothing here is Katter-specific either, but it confirms the algorithm bill and One Nation are the two live conversations worth watching this week.

Facebook has no public "trending" feed of its own (Meta killed that feature in 2018), so this is the closest honest equivalent: real engagement on this week's biggest political stories. It shows the realistic scale of organic reach on political Facebook posts right now, useful context for setting expectations, since even the best-performing post from a 5.1M-follower page only pulled 542 likes.

The political news landscape this week

Cross-checked 9 Sep 2026 across nine AU outlets, ranked by how many outlets carried each story, for national context only. This week's Content Ideas are built from fresh, Kennedy-specific research instead (see the electorate news table below). Real Facebook engagement on these same national stories is in the trending section above, since Facebook has no public "trending" feed of its own, actual post engagement is the closest honest equivalent.

What's happening in Kennedy & North Queensland

Researched 23 September 2026 directly from his own electorate and portfolio: ABC News, Katter's Australian Party press releases, his own bobkatter.com.au site, Hansard, and North Queensland agricultural coverage. This is the basis for the Content Ideas below, not the national headline table above.

Where to point content this week

Two lanes: what to actually post about, and how often to post it. Researched 23 September 2026 directly from his own electorate and portfolio: ABC News, Katter's Australian Party and his own bobkatter.com.au releases, and North Queensland agricultural coverage. Idea 1 builds directly off the post that's already this week's #1 performer (see Balance above).

Content ideas: what to post
IDEA 1

Follow up on the working-holiday-visa story while it's still breaking nationally

His "Backpackers are here for a good time, not a long time" post is already this week's #1 performer on the whole leaderboard (see Balance above), and the story has since gone national: the government has paused working holiday visa applications from 24 of 29 countries and introduced a ballot system cutting third-year extensions from 31,000 to 5,000, with the National Farmers Federation warning of a wheat-harvest labour shortage. This is squarely in Kennedy's own backyard: an electorate that runs on agricultural labour watching Canberra tighten the tap during harvest season.

A short, direct follow-up (not a repeat of the same joke) makes it a running position rather than a one-off, and rides a story that's still actively developing.
IDEA 2

Put his own Question Time exchange on family payments into a native clip

He pressed the Treasurer directly this month on income-splitting for single-wage families and a $75,000 per-birth payment to arrest the falling birthrate, and government rejected it in favour of incentivising more working parents. It's a real exchange already on the parliamentary record, in exactly his own populist-economic lane, that hasn't yet become a native social post in his own voice.

Clip the exchange itself rather than summarising it in a caption, the "government said no" framing does more work than a policy explainer.
IDEA 3

Turn the Kennedy telecommunications win into a delivery story

His own office has recently published wins on telecommunications improvements for Kennedy electorate constituents, real, local, unglamorous infrastructure delivery that's exactly the kind of story that proves he's working the electorate day to day, not just reacting to Canberra news cycles.

Pair it with a specific local detail (a town, a service, a resident's name if permission allows), generic "telecoms win" posts read as press release; specific ones read as representation.
IDEA 4

Ride the Far North Queensland tropical fruit story: safe, positive, regional pride

Tropical fruits once rare outside the tropics are now finding a booming market in capital cities, a genuinely good-news regional-economy story with zero political risk. It plays directly to Katter's proud-regional, backer-of-local-industry brand without touching a contested issue.

Good low-stakes post to pair with the heavier Idea 1/2 content this week, gives the feed some balance between advocacy and good news.
Tips: posting rhythm, technical fixes, and the X restart
TIP 1

Repeat what already worked, don't treat it as a one-off

The backpackers post isn't an outlier to be admired and moved on from, it's proof of a format: short, blunt, funny-but-serious, tied to a real news story affecting his own electorate. The next 2-3 posts should consciously reuse that same tone and structure on Idea 1 and Idea 2 above, rather than defaulting back to a different register.

This is the single highest-leverage move available this week: it's a validated format, not a guess.
TIP 2

Reply-guy the X reactivation using the live visa conversation

An account dormant since February 2024 restarting with original posts into silence is a slow rebuild. Faster: spend the first two weeks back replying to and quote-posting farm groups, the National Farmers Federation and journalists covering the working-holiday-visa story, which is actively trending in agricultural and regional circles right now. It borrows reach from an existing, live conversation instead of starting cold.

This is a genuinely better on-ramp than a generic restart, the conversation is happening in his own portfolio, this week, whether he joins it or not.
TIP 3

Turn on the RSS feed, add transcripts, then clip it

With 14 episodes already recorded, the fastest fix isn't more episodes: it's making the show findable at all. Enable a public RSS feed submitted to Spotify/Apple/Podscan and publish a transcript per episode (see the Diagnosis fix above), then cut 2-3 existing episodes into 60-90 second YouTube Shorts / Reels built around his strongest soundbites. Fixing the plumbing first means the clips actually have a discoverable show to drive people back to.

Prioritise clips on regional/agriculture topics, his identity queries on ChatGPT and Perplexity already return him accurately for that positioning, just never mention the podcast.
TIP 4

Get the backpackers video re-cropped and live on X and TikTok by Friday

Concretely, this week: someone crops the existing Facebook video to 9:16 vertical (15 minutes, any basic editor, no re-filming), uploads it natively to TikTok and X on the same day rather than days later while it's still news, and the office account replies with it directly into the live #auspol visa thread and to the National Farmers' Federation's own posts on the labour shortage, not a cold post into an empty feed (see Diagnosis above for the exact sequence). That borrows an audience that's already talking about this story right now.

Deadline matters more than polish here: the visa story is peaking this week, the same clip posted in a fortnight is old news.

Both ChatGPT and Perplexity get his identity right when asked directly, but neither surfaces his podcast, even when asked specifically about Australian politician-hosted podcasts. This is the gap Tip 3 targets.

Identity query: "Who is Bob Katter and what is he known for?" (asked logged-out, 9 Sep 2026)

Sources citedResult
Australian Parliament House, bobkatter.com.au, ABC NewsAccurate: KAP founder, regional/agriculture focus. No mention of his podcast.

Category query: "What are some good Australian politics podcasts hosted by politicians themselves?"

EngineResultMentioned instead
ChatGPTMISSCalled the field "surprisingly small," named only a UK showRory Stewart & Alastair Campbell (The Rest Is Politics, UK)
PerplexityMISSCited 29 sources, still didn't surface any tracked client's showSen. Alex Antic ("Based"), John Anderson ("Conversations")
Google (organic)No AI Overview triggered: standard web results only, dominated by journalist-hosted showsN/A
This is a landscape-wide gap, not specific to him, none of the 4 tracked clients' shows surfaced. But it reinforces why Tip 3 (short-form clips) matters: more indexable, shareable content is the most direct lever available on this specific problem.
How to fix it

AI engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity pull from indexable, crawlable web text, not audio or video files, so the podcast itself is invisible to them by default. Three concrete moves: (1) publish a written transcript or detailed show notes for each episode on bobkatter.com.au, since that's the kind of content these engines actually cite; (2) add Podcast schema markup (structured data) to the site so search and AI crawlers can identify it as a podcast rather than generic text; (3) get the show mentioned on a few external pages that already rank well, a KAP press release, a regional news writeup, or a Wikipedia-style listing of Australian politician podcasts, since both engines lean on third-party citations, not just his own site. None of this requires new episodes, just making the 14 already recorded findable.
